A New Equilibrium
A New Equilibrium
Mesotherapy can definitely play a critical part in helping a menopausal woman keep her "shape" or get it back if she has lost it, especially when she combines mesotherapy with any necessary endocrine and hormonal supplementation and adaptations to the dietary requirements of her changing body.
Going through menopause, which typically spans 10 years in its multiple stages, can be bewildering. At this time, many symptoms of menopause are similar to symptoms of low thyroid and adrenal fatigue, which include but are certainly not limited to “brain fog”, exhaustion, weight gain, and water retention. The average menopausal woman helplessly watches her body shape morph from the one she has always known into one that is unknown, and in most cases, unwanted. Even compared against other uncomfortable menopausal symptoms such as depression, insomnia and hot flashes, the loss of one’s physical self-image is the single most upsetting result of this passage.
I’ll share my personal story here as a testament that with education and perseverance, and help from Dr. Jennings and his wonderful, friendly staff, a menopausal woman can not only get control over her body and keep the new equilibrium, but learn to love it once again.

I went through premenopause with few symptoms, but after menopause at 49 my body changed fast. Suddenly, my formerly flat stomach bulged, my thighs fleshed out, even my arms gained weight. I gained about 8-10 pounds, an amount I considered to be far too much when I had been proud of holding my weight consistently for 20 years at about 107 on my 5’3” frame. And for the first time in my life, cellulite appeared on my arms, stomach, buttocks and thighs. My usual diet tricks did nothing. It was if I were speaking to a stone statue. My new body was oblivious to my preferences, my desires, even my commands! I was deeply horrified. I turned to mesotherapy essentially in desperation.
After my initial consultation with Dr. Jennings, I decided to proceed with 10 mesotherapy treatments and they were immediately effective. I was very impressed and even more relieved because I thought I had found a way to circumvent my problems.
However, I soon realized that I couldn’t just have mesotherapy body sculpting treatments to sculpt give me back my figure, because as effective as the treatments are in melting fat and even shrinking back loosening skin, my body was out of balance in a couple of important ways and I wasn’t able to maintain all of the ground I had won. I had to do things differently—but what?
First, I had to come to terms with the fact that each year, my body was making less and less of the things I needed, and not just female hormones. It was also making less thyroid and I had already been hypothyroid for several years. I had numerous devastating symptoms related to fatigue and I didn’t know if they were menopausal symptoms or if I had adrenal exhaustion. All internet articles I reviewed and all the books I bought and read gave me a great deal of information, but I ended up drowning in it.
Second, I always had had a good diet with which I had essentially controlled not only my weight and but my general health for decades. Now, diet wasn’t enough any more. Being a believer in nutrition, I figured there must be some magic bullet that I just hadn’t found yet that would give me back the ability to manage my body, post-menopausal or not. I did find out what works very well for me, but I didn’t find a magic bullet at one time and in one place.
Last, for all of my experimentation outside of Dr. Jennings’ office, I didn’t fully comprehend that he is an anti-aging pioneer in addition to a top-rated mesotherapy practitioner and teacher. I would have saved myself months of confusion if I had communicated better with him, because I needed guidance more than I knew. I would definitely recommend that a menopausal woman undertaking mesotherapy work closely with a doctor who is an expert in managing hormonal and endocrine issues!
Throughout this whole process, I discovered several critical considerations which, in addition to undergoing mesotherapy treatments, eventually helped me find a new physiological balance which have helped me maximize the effect of the treatments.
-
Check Thyroid. I feel foolish saying this, but the truth is fearing that I had adrenal exhaustion I went to two endrocrinologists, who other than ordering tests offered little help. In desperation I took my piles of lab results to show Dr. Jennings, who reviewed them thoughtfully and suggested that we try increasing my thyroid medication. Thyroid tests are challenging to read because the levels may “be within normal parameter” but you may still feel terrible. The important thing is to have a doctor who listens and cares when you tell him/her that you feel terrible, one who is willing to experiment. Within weeks, the brain fog, fatigue and water retention I was enduring were almost completely resolved. Dr. Jennings had other helpful suggestions for additional supplementation.
- Watch Carbohydrates. Somewhere in my travels I read that women require the estrogen hormone in order to metabolize carbohydrates. I asked Dr. Jennings if this was true, and he agreed. It makes all the sense in the world that if your estrogen levels have dropped to postmenopause levels, you can no longer metabolize carbohydrates effectively and they are essentially all stored as fat. For the first time I started counting carbohydrates in my normal diet. I was eating many times more than I was aware of. Once I realized this I was able to start controlling my weight again.Watching your carbohydrate intake is your most powerful daily tool.
- Accupuncture Helps Balancing. I had two sessions of accupuncture with my trusted accupuncturist to balance my thyroid, estrogen and progesterone. My own hormone glands were not picking up supplementation because they were more tired than even I knew. Then, I had four sessions one week apart to balance my metabolism with my rebalanced estrogen and progesterone levels (they are all connected, remember), which drastically reduced carbohydrate cravings. I no longer was starving for chocolate when I hit the “afternoon slump.” These treatments were effective in helping me drop several pounds from around my middle.
- Refine Your Figure with Mesotherapy! An expert mesotherapy practitioner such as Dr. Jennings really can ameliorate the lumps and bumps of cellulite, effectively melt fat away from trouble spots and put your beautiful lines back by precisely sculpting the body. Especially at the menopausal age, it is realistic to plan for touch-up treatments from time to time to maintain the progress you have made.
